Lee County and Synagro’s Charlotte County Composting Facility Tour




Join us for a day of education and networking in Lee and Charlotte County, FL.  Join RFT as we visit these local composting facilities and gain valuable on site education and information. 

When: Friday, May 1, 2015

Time:  10:30 am - 2:15 pm (EST)

Where: Lee (5500 Church Road, Felda, FL 33930)  and Charlotte County (29751 Zemel Road, Punta Gorda, FL 33955)  *Directions to Lee County Facility: 5500 Church Rd.  From SR 29, after passing through Labelle, turn right onto Church Rd just before Felda.  6 miles and turn right at the stop sign.  From the west, SR 82 from I-75 towards Immokalee, turn left on Church Rd (turn at cell phone tower), 3 miles north, gate directly in front of you at stop sign.


Registration fee: $35 for RFT Members; $50 Non-RFT Members


Tour Itinerary
  • 10:30- 11:30 a.m.  -  Lee County Composting Facility Tour
  • 11:30 -  1:30 p.m. -   Lunch to be provided by RFT and travel to Charlotte County Landfill
  • 1:30 – 2:15 p.m. -  Synagro’s Charlotte County Composting Facility Tour. 

Important:  Wear comfortable clothing (jeans are acceptable).  Wear your own PPE: hard hat, safety vest, eye protection and closed toes shoes.  Walking will be required.


What can attendees expect to experience:  Attendees will be able visit Lee County to tour the facilities material receiving, pile construction, monitoring and testing, quality control practices and final product finishing.  After lunch, attendees will continue the tour to see grinding operations of yard waste to mulch, receiving of bio-solids, mixing/creation of windrows, and final screening operation to produce compost product at Synagro's Charlotte County Composting Facility.

In addition, County personnel will be on hand to answer any other questions about the landfill, C&D operation or baling operation there on the compound.


About the sponsors:  

Lee County Solid Waste - Lee County began operations in 2010. Since then the facility has processed over 60,000 tons of biosolids. Most material is distributed to local agriculture. The tour will focus on the daily operations at the facility including: material receiving, pile construction, monitoring and testing, quality control practices, and final product finishing.
