9:45 am- 11:00 a.m. - Introductions at Sweetwater Organics Community Farm and carpool to the farm’s compost facility (tour #1) located at: 10907 Memorial Highway, Tampa, FL 33615 by the Helen Davis Elementary. Carpool return to main location. 11:00 am - 11:45 p.m. - Sweetwater main facilities (tour #2) located at: 7318 W. Comanche Ave., Tampa, FL 33634. 11:45 am - 1:00 p.m. - Lunch (provided), event wrap up, and networking.
Important:
For this tour, visitors are required to wear closed toes shoes. Comfortable outdoor walking clothes, hat, sunscreen, and bug replant are also recommend as the entire tour is outdoors.
On Thursday, October 8th visit Sweetwater Organic Community Farm to learn how they integrate compost into their small scale vegetable farm and how the farm operates. The tour will begin with a discussion of how Sweetwater processes its compost to meet organic certification standards from raw materials procured locally. The second part of the tour will take visitors to the original Sweetwater farm to learn about the farm's operations from seed to harvest.
Rick Martinez, founder of Sweetwater, will lead this walking tour. Rick has over 30 years experience in organic agriculture and is an organic certifier.
